They spend a millenia fighting against the Abyss that’s trying to consume them.
Because it’s tiring, Armariel (Phoenix) comes up with the idea to create ‘bastions of light’ to stave off the darkness.
Each god uses a portion of their power to create a bastion of light – all except for Samael. The other couldn’t immediately create the bastions, so while they were doing that, Samael was singlehandedly holding off the Abyss.
After the bastions were made, Samael fell into a deep sleep because of exhaustion. The others put him away somewhere safe where he could recover undisturbed.
After the bastions were made, Penemuiel (Kitsune) came up with the idea of creating entities that could possibly fight against the Abyss in their stead since they were a bit weak from even creating the Bastions.
They then turn the Bastions of Light into Realms. The gods come together to create a plethora of races for the realms, but each god creates their own unique race for their specific realm. These unique races were made to emphasize the abilities/traits of their specific creator. (or just given some special ability)
Each deity raises their unique races with their own unique way to fight against the Abyss.
Uriel (Angel) & Gadriel (Elves) were always super close and typically agreed on most matters. Because of them being closer than most, they fucked in a dressing room. They 100% had been using Asuriel (Demon), Uriel’s sister, as a go between for their sex letters and Asuriel def wanted to kill herself the entire time.
Anyway, Uriel and Gadriel wind up having Azriel. Literally no one is surprised by this.
Because of this, Uriel and Gadriel give Azriel his own smaller realm – Eden.
As a sort of ‘birthday’ gift, all of the other gods put a handful of their unique races into Eden. Not only as a gift, but because Penemuiel suggested that it’d be a good way of interacting and seeing how they’d come together – to see if the races would be able to work together and learn from each other.
And they put some dumb kid in charge of it all.
Around this time, Samael awoke. He was like ‘sup dudes’ and most were like... Cool with him being back. But Vajriel (Dragon), never liked Samael. So when Samael came back, Vajriel deadass just shunned him super hard.
Vajriel and Sariel were both very... Distant to Samael. For no reason other than Vajriel just didn’t like him (and probably because Samael was stronger than him) and Sariel typically chilled with Vajriel.
Anyway, Samael kinda just went around and looked at other people’s worlds, just to see what was up and going on since he’d been asleep all that time.
So, Samael was pretty taken by the idea of everyone having realms and he was like, “Yo, I’m gonna make my own.” And Penemuiel was like “okay but what if you didn’t tho”. The logic was that he was the best at fighting against the Abyss and, should it attack en masse, they’d need him fully ready to fight since none of the races in the realms were ready (to their knowledge). Or rather, they were untested.
Instead, they saddled Samael up with Azriel in control of Eden. Samael was older/wiser and Azriel had a more intimate relationship with the races of Eden, so they could learn from each other.
Samael is Okay with this, but he was kind of salty that he has to share with Uriel and Gadriel’s kid, but he’s ultimately cool with it. He figured he’d just be the bigger person and not throw a bitchfit about it.
He gets along with Azriel Okay – cool kid. But, all that time spent alone staving off the Abyss got to him. It had seeped into his essence and was causing him to corrupt everything around him, despite it not being his intention. It was really subtle; the races became more irritable, violence and destructive whenever he passed through. Eventually, he was taken out of Eden because he was obviously the cause of it.
Vajriel was the first to suggest banishing Samael because he never liked him. Araqiel (Mermaid) took the stance “what if we didn’t do that tho?” And there was quickly a divide between them. Vajriel, Sariel and Armariel were all for getting rid of Samael because he was corrupted. Araqiel, Semariel (Vampires), and Asuriel were all for keeping him around because “it’s literally not his fault tho and he protected us all that time.” This left Uriel, Gadriel, Penemuiel and Azriel as the only ones who were undecided.
Penemuiel was 100% for getting rid of Samael, but they didn’t vocalize this. Instead, they pretended to remain on the fence so she could subtly push Uriel, Gadriel and Azriel towards getting rid of Samael.
While Vajriel never liked Samael, it was Penemuiel who wound up subtly pushing him to take a more outspoken stance. Ultimately Uriel, Gadriel and Azriel decided that banishing Samael would be fucked up, so they instead decided, “Hey, let’s just put him back to sleep.”
What could go wrong?
Literally everything I guess.
Samael – rightfully – had no intention of being forced to go back to sleep. But when he noticed they were all on the cusp of fighting, he chose to be an absolute chad and just accept banishment. He’d spent eons fighting the Abyss solo so he’d just keep doing it until he died.
Samael goes out into the Abyss, removing him from the equation.
It was then kind of ‘business’ as usual.
Few centuries pass with very little activity, but some of the realms are noticeably descending into chaos. No one really knows why though. Samael was gone so it should have been fine.
While Samael had been fending off the Abyss by himself, part of it had slipped past him and infected Penemuiel. And, over time, it had consumed Penemuiel entirely. This is why Penemuiel’s creations – Kitsune – are generally ‘tricksters’ or ‘chaotic neutral’ (at least the original ones.)
Anyway, Penemuiel knew that so long as Samael was around, the Abyss would never be able to easily consume the gods and their realms. This is why they convinced Vajriel to be more vocally against Samael and pushed for his banishment.
So, with Samael in the Abyss, it was time for Abyss/Penemuiel to put their plan into motion.
The Abyss returned en masse and began to attack them once more.
“man imagine if Samael was still around lol”
Anyway, shit gets quickly fucked up – the Abyss invades the realms and some of the Elder Races are able to to fend it off, but eventually they’re consumed. And when the realms are consumed, their gods are typically consumed along with them.
When the Abyss reached Asuriel’s realm, 4 of the entities turned on the rest and helped defend the realm. Asuriel still wanted to destroy them, but Azriel took them, hoping to learn more about them.
Against everyone’s advice, he put them in Eden just to see what’d happen. Almost immediately, Samael’s essence (which was still in Eden, albeit dormant) converged to them and it became pretty obvious to Azriel that Samael had created/sent them from the Abyss.
Azriel was a bit confused by the fact that they were so ‘mortal’ and would grow old and die. Because these were Samael’s creations and Azriel had learned from him, he was able to recreate them.
This was the birth of humans, and when the ones Samael sent died, his essence dispersed back out into the world.
Humans, called the Children of Azriel by the Elder Races of Eden, were unnaturally adaptable to their surroundings. Samael had figured out, from his time in Eden, that all of the Elder Races would be able to fight against the Abyss, but not defeat it. So he made a race that’d be able to accumulate all of the abilities and aspects of the Elder Races.
He had just taken a gamble that Azriel would take the 4 he sent and recreate them because he knew Azriel pretty well.
Anyway, Penemuiel figured out what was going on and intentionally had their realm destroyed by the Abyss and ‘was injured’ trying to protect their realm. They went to Azriel was like, “Hey, mind if I sleep in Eden for a bit?” and Azriel is like “sure.png”
Penemuiel is allowed go into Eden around the time humanity has reached its apparent peak. While pretending to be asleep, it begins to possess person after person, and pushes humanity and the elder races into fighting, hoping they’ll destroy each other.
Azriel comes down and is like “yo wtf stop this bullshit”, puts an end to the war and forms the Duodecim to try and bring everyone back together. But he doesn’t stay long because he has to leave to go and help Asuriel defend her realm.
When Azriel leaves, ODIN captures a portion of Azriel’s essence, but also a portion of Samael’s. This leads to ODIN transcending and gaining knowledge of the other realms and the encroaching Abyss.
However, it winds up incorrectly intepreting that Samael is the real enemy. (this leads to the Champions of Paradise opposing the [Samael’s Group])
Penemuiel is still hiding away in Eden, having formed a base of sorts in Hadean. They use this as a way to bring Abyssal Creatures into Eden. Because of this, Penemuiel can’t actively do anything themself.
Samael’s Essence has found 4 suitable humans and turned them into the [Group Name Here] (Conquest, Strife, Judgement and Death) whose main goal is to find and kill Penemuiel, but they have no leads as to where they are. All they know is that ‘the Abyss told them to find and kill the Traitor’. To the world, the 4 (due to being ‘servants of the Abyss’) are evil/need to be killed.
