Mythical Beasts There are mythical beasts that roam Xisin. Characters may interact with them - even see and touch them. Some may be killed, such as herd animals like the Kelpie. However, keep in mind that unique beasts cannot be tamed or killed without permission from staff. This is to insure that the creatures remain available to all members for their plots. Keep in mind that these beasts are very much real, although there may not be a lot of information about them and some are rarer than others. There are many people in Xisin who may not believe in some whatsoever. If you're unsure how much liberty you can take with these creatures, consult a staff member. Have a beast you'd like to add? Let us know! KELPIE The Kelpie are malevolent water spirits who take the form of beautiful black horses. They are mostly found in the ocean, but have been seen in the river as well. Herds are small and sporadic, often as small as two but rarely as big 10. Legend has it that the Kelpie have another, truer form - a disfigured one, once submerged within a body of water - but no one has ever truly verified this. They look average enough, and could easily be confused with a small band of escaped horses to someone who has not been taught to avoid them. On land, they are gentle and sociable creatures - although they can only dwell there for relatively brief periods, and generally only to trap prey. Kelpie's do not have to eat, but delight in the taste of people and have the sharp teeth to prove it. Kelpie's have a mystical way about them that attracts people to them, and will let them on their back in order to drown and consume them. Escaping from a lone Kelpie once you have been captured by their trance is difficult, but given their affinity for herds almost impossible. For being spirits, however, Kelpie are mortal. Rumor has it that when they are killed, their bodies immediately rot away. CERYNITIS Despite her antlers, Cerynitis is a golden doe that eludes hunters everywhere. She lives in the northern forests of Xisin, hidden in the thick foliage of the wood. The All Mother created her as a playmate for Svatur. She is a sentient being, but does not know of human emotions, such as love or hate. It's unclear how she speaks. She does not move her lips or say words out loud, per se. Merely, her words echo from a seemingly unknown source, as though they are beamed directly into the mind. Cerynitis is pursued for two reasons: wisdom and blood. Her antlers and eyes shine bright gold, and there are many hunters who would like to hang them from their walls - regardless of how sacred she is rumored to be. Cerynitis can sometimes be seen among the elven villages, although this is a rarity and tends to only be on her visits to the High Priestess. Although she cannot see the future, Cerynitis has lived since the beginning, and her knowledge of the worlds cycles are something akin to prophetic. She flees hunters with incredible speed, as Cerynitis is swifter than a flying arrow. But, more often than not, she ditches those that would do her harm with intelligence alone.

Wendigo
Wendigo are gruesome, decaying, anthropomorphic creatures. No two wendigo look exactly the same, but one trait common to all of them is their decaying bodies and the stench that can precede them for miles. Upon looking into their eyes, you will find no soul there. They are some twisted conglomeration of human and animal parts, driven by their need to kill and savagely rip apart. They are very rare creatures, but over the years seen across Xisin. They have even been known to attack towns, taking out dozens of citizens before they could be subdued. They feel no pain or emotion. Folklore says that the wendigo are born out of greed, corruption, murder, and even cannibalism. The only way to kill a wendigo is to burn it to ash, which can be extremely difficult due to their inability to feel pain. The wendigo must be restrained in some form until the fire begins to disintegrate them.

Black shuck
Black Shuck is a monstrously large black dog that roams the marshy lowlands of Xisin's southern corner. The dog is a spectre with bright, saucer-like red eyes that glow as though they are brilliant rubies in the dark. No one is quite sure who or what he is exactly, but reportedly Black Shuck only shows himself to travelers or residents as a bad omen or just before a death - the phoenixes of Aikia see him relatively often in their line of work located within the marshlands. His physical form is loosely defined, and any blows to him will just result in a disturbance of his smoky body. Black Shuck is neither malevolent nor kind, and does not seek anyone out. His purpose is unknown to even the oldest, most inquisitive residents.
