In the beginning, there were only two: The All Mother and her companion, Svatur. Their home was primordial darkness, a conglomeration of shadows and black. Like all creation stories, life came to be out of them, and through their inspiration the world was born. The All Mother birthed the land and wind, carving creatures out of the water and mud that poured from her finger tips in dirtied puddles. Her favorite places bloomed with wildflowers, and Svatur took his own companions amongst the various woodland creatures that roamed there. The wolves were most like him, and in time Svatur convinced the All Mother to create others in his image. She gave them unto him, as they became sentient creatures. The All Mother was the creative sort however, and went on to make many others. Humans came to be, and in a stroke of ingeniousness the All Mother morphed animal and human in the form of Shapeshifters. From the birds came her inspiration for the powerful phoenix. The dainty figure of the butterfly became the faeries and elves, and the scales of lizards grew into the armor of mighty dragons. They were all magnificent in their own way, each becoming more complex than the last as the All Mother gained experience with her creations. In time, Svatur and his clan grew envious of the All Mother’s creations, marveling at their majestic and powerful forms. Svatur appealed to the All Mother, asking her to re-create the wolves with her new sense of creativity and imagination. When she denied him, his envy turned into contempt. Using dark magics, Svatur changed the wolves into what are now referred to as werewolves: wolves with human and bestial forms. But they were imperfect, prone to violence and a disorganized lack of control. The first of the species ravaged cities and towns, spreading fear throughout the All Mother’s world. Furious and grieving over the deaths of her children, the All Mother cast Svatur out of the mortal world. It is said that out of his death the vampires were born: the embodiments of Svatur’s bitterness.
