General Characteristics
Phoenixes are remarkably similar to humans in their basic physical appearance. They are slightly shorter on average, and at the mean stand at 5ft 8in. Phoenixes are not particularly powerful physically, and their diet is omnivorous. Their natural hair colors are brown, red, orange, blonde, and blue. Some sport large, feathered wings, while others do not. Eye color is most commonly red or blue, although brown is not unheard of amongst this population. As phoenixes age, both their eyes and hair continue to progressively lighten, and all phoenixes will eventually become blind if they live long enough. There seems to be no differences in height or lifespan between males and females. All phoenixes are naturally gifted with the ability to rebirth indefinitely, although one lifespan is generally around 80 years. Upon rebirth, a phoenix returns to their egg form and must be kept continuously warm for 3 months to hatch. If this warming is not achieved, the egg will stagnate and the chick inside will die. For the first three years of their lives, phoenixes are bound to their bird form, and although they generally use their human-esque form in order to mingle with society, this form is ultimately their natural appearance. Ultimately, it will grow into a large, fiery bird that can be shifted into at will. These forms are varying but all fiery shades, from blue to red. All phoenixes are immune to the damaging impact of fire, but not all can actually manipulate it and have been known to accidentally set woods and buildings on fire if they do not take enough care.
Brief History
Phoenixes have been known throughout history as being particularly in tune with white magic and healing arts. It is rumored the the All Mother created them after realizing the fragility of humans, and as such some humans can regard them with a sense of self-entitlement. After the ravaging caused by the early werewolves, they were called on for their abilities and rejuvenating comforts. Eventually, a group of ambitious phoenixes formed Aikia, a temple in the marshy inner region of Sanchu. Aikia is held in high regard amongst everyone in Xisin as a place of safety and healing, and has remained the most integral contribution by phoenixes to the landscape of the world.
Magic
Naturally inclined towards white magics, phoenixes are commonly associated with restorative and rejuvenating abilities. However, they are also closely identified with elemental magic and amplified, bodily senses. Contrarily, phoenixes are also vulnerable to elemental magics, particularly those who cannot control their own fire.
