Horses, wagons, and carriages were all lining the streets of Denaes. As the evening was setting in, the inns began to fill with weary travelers and merchants; their cargo was being sheltered away and their steeds brought into stables. The smell of various foods and drinks began to waft through the town as many began to settle in for the night. It had been a long day and now was the time to rest.
Having ridden in from Sohana, the neighboring capitol, Nylus was no different. His cream colored stallion had spent the day trotting along the roads and had finally reached their destination. Nylus had been sent by his brother, the Count Percy, to purchase some goods for the sake of some political dealing. Naturally, Nylus had no interest in the details of that sort of thing, but he didn't have anything else to do anyways. Moreover, spending a night out of town would be a nice change of pace.
After finding a suitable inn with the proper stables to keep his horse, Nylus decided that there was enough time to wander the streets. Denaes was one of the more interesting places of Aikia, for it was a major trading hub for the country. Here, one could find people of many races; humans and shifters were the most common, but occasionally an elf or dwarf could be spotted. On the most rare occasion, he has managed to glimpse what might have been a nightwalker, but he could never be sure. Races weren't the only diverse thing, however. Those from different socioeconomic classes were also common in this area. Being a lower class noble like Nylus was no rare sight in the town, but it wasn't unheard of for foreign diplomats or even royalty to pass through here on their way to the capitol.
Looking at himself, Nylus made sure that he wouldn't stand out too much from the crowd. While he was a noble, his family really only had a history to back up their claim. Their political and economic influence, on the other hand, was relatively meager. It seemed that his dark gray tunic and black cap was sufficient to blend himself in with the commoners, although on closer inspection, both were of excellent quality. Nevertheless, this seemed enough to make up for his lack of bodyguards. After all, while he would never wish to resort to such needs, some of his more affluent peers were known to do so.
Just as he finished pondering his appearance, a shout broke loose down the street. Although he was concerned, Nylus couldn't help his piqued interest and began hustling down toward the commotion.
