General Characteristics
As the All Mother's last and most creative children, dragons come in a multitude of varieties. Similar to phoenixes, dragons have two forms - their entirely dragon morphs being their natural one. Dragons can come in any color, shape, and size. Some have scales, leathery skin, or even feathers. They can be monstrously large, or conversely the size of a small lizard. They have many body adaptations, such as wings or gills - although not all dragons have either. In their human forms, they always retain characteristics of their natural form, such as wings or horns. Eye and hair color are generally related to their dragon forms, meaning they can come in just about any color. Dragons have one of the longest lifespans. They reach sexual maturity at 100 years, and will live to 600 years. All dragons are born as colorful eggs that must be kept warm to hatch. Unlike phoenixes, however, an egg that is not warmed will simply remain dormant until it is. There are tales of eggs remaining dormant for up to 300 years, but those are just rumors and no one is really sure how long these eggs can survive.
Brief History
Dragons are one of the most respected races, particularly the ones nearing the end of their lives. They're known as wise, although in reality this is just due to their long lifespans and infinite number of experiences. Unlike the other races, created on Xisin proper, Dragons originate from the island of Ischmiel off the coast of Sanchu. It is a large island, but most dragons will leave it at some point or the other - if their forms permit, some of the smaller dragons who can't catch a ride across the ocean will never leave the island. They adhere to no form of their own government, but the oldest among them is revered with much respect and will ultimately have a great amount of power when it comes to decisions. The Elder, as they are known, remains on the Island and is sought out by people of all kinds for their advice. Not all Elders are good ones, however, and this should be kept in mind if you are seeking their guidance. Individual dragons are free to seek whatever ambitions they like, but the Island of Ischmiel is considered sacred, and any disputes or political aspirations on it are seriously frowned upon.
Magic
Dragons are the most magically inclined of the races, dabbling in all areas of magic. However, they also have the longest learning curve. Most dragons will remain on the Island of Ischmiel for the first 150 years of their life or more, just learning their craft.
