General Characteristics
Elves are easily recognized by their pointed ears, though the length and sharpness of them may vary. They are quite tall on average with a mean of about six feet. Most of them sport ash-blonde hair and light eyes, but it is not impossible to see an elf with light brown eyes and hair. Elves are known for their strong cheekbones and elegant sense of style, accompanied by delicate face paintings. These markings are designed by the High Priestess. Some only sport such markings at ceremonial events, while others will go so far as to tattoo them. Most elves will live to about 100 years old.
Brief History
Of the races, elves are one of the most elusive. They generally keep to themselves, and forego the bustling city life as much as possible. As far as politics go, they are reluctant participators. Elven villages are scarce, but remain dotted throughout the forested area of northern Xisin. The race views both The All Mother and Svatur as important deities, and has a unique outlook on life that recognizes the importance of both light and shadow. Unlike most others, elves hold a deity of myth - Elzalia - in high regard. It is said that Elzalia was the first of their kind, but the rest of her story is muddled in folktale and legend. In all elven villages you will find a shrine to her, decorated in day lilies and various versions of a bow and arrow. In elven tradition, households and government structures are historically matriarchal. Prior to the unification of the Kingdom of Daika and Sanchu, the elves were governed by a succession of queens. Today, there still exists an elven queen, although her power only comes from the widespread respect given by others of her kind. Much more respected is the elven High Priestess, who acts as an oracle for the elven deities. It is said that the High Priestess is prophetic, and will call on individuals of all species to tell them their fate should she come to see it. The High Priestess, although very valuable to the elves, travels all across Xisin with a small entourage of companions and protectors to do her work. All elves will ultimately seek her out to receive their ceremonial markings - the telltale sign of Elzalia's blessing. Sadly, elves who do not receive their markings are considered cursed, and ultimately shunned by their peers.
Magic
Elves are known for their talents in white magic, and a select few have enhanced bodily talents.
